She turns 25 in 2 months. We're in the 2nd half of our career.

She turns 25 in 2 months. We're in the 2nd half of our career. It's hard to believe that Elena has seen her best days on the WTA Tour. Tennis on the WTA Tour a very tough career to suceed in.

Two more withdrawals, both from 25Ks happening the week of Feb. 18. I'm glad I never noticed she was on those entry lists in the first place, because I may have held out a tiny bit of hope that she'd actually play, which would have been silly. But tomorrow when the lists for the Feb. 25 Fort Walton Beach 25K come out, I'll be looking, because I seem to be a total masochist when it comes to these mysteriously elusive players Bovina, Dokic --who's not even likable! -- and Mirjana.

Not a great sign that she struggled with a hopeless 14-year old.
But, just playing was the main goal...

Not a great sign that she struggled with a hopeless 14-year old. But, just playing was the main goal... Elena had to be so nervous playing a girl 10 years younger than her. But she won the match and Elena needs to play matches to try and rebuild her game and confidence. And Leena how is 14 year old Nicole Gibbs hopeless? She's playing a 25k challenger at 14 and not a junior tournament. That has to count for something.

Apparently Gibbs won a $10k already, so a tough first set isn't that bad.

Looking at her results, she doesn't play many junior events. I'm assuming a minor case of Brie syndrome with this one.
It was a Mexican 10k in December. And she got a WO over the only decent player in the field, Cohen. That puts it barely above Elke Clijsters' title.
Elena should win easily over Tiffani-Amber Thiessen in R2. She's a 25k Q scrub.

Rumor has it that Bovina def. Kasler 61 61
Rumor also has it that all winners are playing 2 matches today, so one more to go for EB. She needs to win the next one to get a single WTA point.

Kasler would have been her 3rd opponent, so she's qualified. *Edit* I'm not sure. The draw on the ITF site is screwed up.
Now win the title.

Lost to Alexis Gordon, whoever that is, 46 36. Not in MD as LL, either. Oh, well. On to Vegas!

Sigh.
The only thing we used to be good for was consistency in defeating bumpkinettes like this.
She's in the Vegas field, but quite a few spots away from reaching the Quali draw. I don't know if she'll get there, Vegas isn't like your usual challenger.

She's in, but unfortunately she drew the top seed, Fujiwara. Why couldn't she have drawn Brie? Hope she's ready!

I hope Lena is a morning person -- her match starts at 10 AM today. :red: They've got action going on 6 courts at once. This would be a fun tournament to attend.

Nice followup to yesterday's erratic outing, EB def. Jingjing Lu 63 64.
It wasn't as straightforward as it sounds, though. Somehow she found herself at 63 04 before she suddenly rebounded with great fervor. Her service games from then on were untouchable, and poor Jingjing had her hopes dashed.

Statswise, still too many DFs, 6, to 0 aces. But that's an improvement over yesterday. And Lu charitably contributed 5 DFs and 0 aces of her own.
49% first serves in works for JH sometimes, but EB is going to have to improve on that soon.

Her win over Jingjing was far from impressive. Elena's serve is getting Dementiesque. Toss going everywhere. Dropping of the arm. Injuries are clearly in her mind. The biggest worry is her movement, though. She's still just as clumsy and uncoordinated as she was at 2005 Moscow. The shotmaking ability is still there, easily the best there, MD included. And that infectous smile of hers. You can't help but love her. And she still enjoys tennis, and really believes she can and should be winning. Which makes watching this rundown Elena that much more sad. I guess if Elena somehow stayed healthy for an 18-month period and her footwork improved with match play, she could be a top 50 player again. But, that won't happen. Age isn't our friend now. The glory days are over. How cruel it was to end her career when she was on the verge of reaching the top 10.

Was she on tv? Anywy, maybe she is rundown, but don't put her in Guga territory yet. But you're right that she's going to have to stay healthy for a long stretch to get anywhere. It's going to be such a tough road this year even if she does stay healthy, because WCs will not be forthcoming. She would have to grind through challenger qualies week after week, à la Pandzic in 2007, just to reach the main draws where a few meager points can be earned. But I don't want to judge from the way she looks now. She's extremely rusty, and there's no reason her game can't suddenly click back in, the way Pandzic's suddenly did this week after a lousy start to the year. And she has to work really hard on her movement.

EB withdrew from next week's Bucharest 50K yesterday. In fact, it seems like almost everybody has withdrawn; the main draw reaches way down into the 400's now. Great opportunity for somebody -- probably Thunder -- but not, apparently, for EB. For now, she's still on the qualy list for St. Gaudens 50K the following week. Oh, and she entered Barcelona.

Still in St. Gaudens. Which has a stacked field. She might not even be seeded in qualies. Her scheduling is beyond poor.

She's in, but unfortunately she drew the top seed, Fujiwara. Why couldn't she have drawn Brie? Hope she's ready! Fujiwara, oh no!!! I can't stand that I wasted so much energy on this player. I came in here to see if I could find posts about the time Leelee spruced up Elbo's wikipedia page -- one of my all-time favorite memories from this board. Instead I found all these years of futile cheering for a dead player. It makes me want to shake my earlier self and say WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

I tweeted about some vandalism on Ana Konjuh's wikipedia page, and someone responded to the effect of "does Bovina's page still say she got hit by a bus?" And I LOLed because I'm pretty sure that was the work of our Leena!

I remember LOLing for days at that.
