This is going to sound arrogant, but I have seen a lot more football from all over the world, that I am fairly confident of. Foot up is still foot up and La Liga and the Serie A in the old days weren't always nice places to play, then they had to something about it and do some research on the Bilbao butcher, this is a guy who put out Maradona and Schuster combined 2,5 yrs with 2 tackles. Ok....so you might have seen more football than me, but what's your point? That I dont know as much about football in general? Alright it may have to have been changed, but not to the extent where you can't even lift your foot off the grass anymore Seeing as I was born in 87, I dont remember much about the 80's, no. I never said that I liked cynical and nasty challenges and I never said that being "hard" is a good thing. Its just a trait that I personally like. I dont know if that was supposed to be sarcastic but I dont like dirty tackles, being brought up on the English game I like the fair play, the hard tackling etc, not the 65 fouls per game stuff. Thats because I didn't see that match. I watched Czech rep v Holland instead. I know it happens in club football and it happens in all sports anyway. So Im biassed? Or Im lying? If it were the other way round then obviously I wouldnt be pleased but thats because of the occasion and the cruel timing. I've seen worse goals been given all the time. What did piss me off was the fact that the linesman let the goal stand, and the ref who was futher away decided to go against him and disallow it. Thats what pissed me off. Ok, being brought up from different sporting backgrounds/rules I can understand that. You have your view and I have mine. btw, I decided to check out these MTF posters and I can see why us English get labelled like we do I like to think Im not one of those because I dont go round slagging people off whenever possible and claiming that we deserved to win.

Yep, they sure did win! Police cars and police on horses at the ready in case the jubilation [you think that GRE had won the whole thing] gets out of hand! I even carried my tiny Greek flag, which some Greek resto owners appreciated! They thought it was cute! So I bought a Greek salad to celebrate!!

Well said, Emma. I was itching to say something even though I promised myself I would ignore it. GWH, that wasn't a very nice thing to say about Emma, or even factual (something you appear to be proud of). If you can claim that she likes dirty, nasty football with lots of fouls, then you don't know anything about her. I was very surprised to read that. Honestly, sometimes I have a feeling you're talking to MTF posters instead of us. But this is a different message board and a different conversation. When you address yourself to England fans, there's only Emma, Sjengster and myself. So who exactly are you debating with when you state over and over again that England is never going to win this championship in such a confrontational manner? Because nobody here said that. Just like nobody here said that England deserved to win. There's no need to treat us like idiots, because we're not. I appreciate your knowledge very much and I love reading your informed posts, because I learn a lot from them. But your opinion is still just an opinion. Doesn't mean it's more important, more objective or more right than anyone else's. Oh, and there's more ways to gloat than one. But that's ok.

The Danforth is the main street in my Greek neighbourhood that has restos, shops, etc. AND it was featured in MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING. A fun place to live!

Sounds like a wonderful neighbourhood, RF! How can it not be a fun place to live. So why aren't you out there celebrating? I sort of was for a bit while I was on the Danforth... it's neat to see people enjoying themselves and having fun -- the restos there ar perfect for that -- outdoor cafes -- a little bit of S Europe in Canada -- I like it! We have lots of neat ethnic neighbourhoods here -- actually along w Montreal and Vancouver, TO is great for multi-ethnicity! We have this fab street fest every summer for 3 days -- on the Danforth called Taste of the Danforth -- food, food, and more food! It's so much fun -- we always go! Music, contests, stuff for kids... and I always end up after eating my way thru the street, in this little Greek cafe for an iced mochaccino! It is heaven!

Great to see the Greeks win against France, the Olympic buildings will be further behind the schedule and it's great for them that they beat a disinterested, petulant and arrogant French team who seemed to believe if they turned up to play, that they would win the match and paid no respect to their opponents on the field.
The parties in Athens and Melbourne would be still going on. I mean not many people expected Greece to make the quarters ( myself included) let alone the semi finals, and irrespective of what happens now, it's a fantastic performance by the Greeks and all these so-called smaller nations who are still there. To think that none of England, France, Italy, Spain or Germany would make the semi finals before the tournament, then there would have been long odds.

Yes, I am an arrogant, argumentative, cantankerous dictator who puts out decrees that the only things that I say about Euro 2004 and football in general is right, and everything else is just irrelevant garbage.
Why is this true? Because GeorgeWHitler said so.

Why is this true? Because GeorgeWHitler said so. Fine, be that way. I just don't understand the need to preface your arguments with: "I've been following this longer than you, so I'm right about this.", because they should and do speak for themselves. I'm sorry if you felt like I was attacking you, but I have no tolerance for statements like that, they are detrimental to debate. You said it yourself, it sounds arrogant, so why say it if you don't intend to put down the person you're addressing? Because that is the main effect, whether you realize it or not. It bugs me, because I love talking to you. But nobody likes to feel belittled, you should be aware of that.

Anyway, this issue has already been sorted out by ILR and myself and we have moved on from there luckily. The arguments on both sides were valid, but that's not the point, just a bit needle from both sides.

Swe-Hol coming up soon. The swedish managers have actually decided to bring on a proper wing-back on the right, Östlund, he has only like 3 caps so I wonder how that will go. They're keeping crappy Nilsson as a defender, on the left wing, so good news for v d Meyde and the Dutch . Linderoth is back as defensive midfielder , Svensson as offensive , security-hazard Jonsson as right midfield . Otherwise the team is the same. Lucic apparently not fit for fight, but where is Mjällby I have a bad feeling about this, some day the sloppy swedish defense will crack, but I've been wrong the whole tournament so...

Francine and Ilhame I can't spare you this gem: the Swedish press has already more or less given up on the Holland match, they believe Sweden will lose and their recommended tactics for the game are boring the Dutch with exteremely hard and defensive play, hold on to a draw over the extra-time, and then win on penalties since Holland always loses penalty shoot-outs. Talk about being fatalistic!

Swe-Hol 0-0 at half-time. Stale-mate. Sweden has actually tricked the Dutch into playing at their own slow pace. Kind of boring :whatever: . So my hopes are rising

You're hopes should be rising Aphex, this is the most boring match ever and Holland isn't playing well at all. If they keep playing like this, it will turn out in a penalty shoot-out and Sweden will win.
