sorry aphex Its heartbreaking isn't it. Freddie was lucky with his pen though. It's just like our QF, went to sudden death pens. Its a cruel was to go out Congrats to the Dutch. My uncles brother will be pleased, he put £200 on Holland to win the tournament before it started. I cant remember the odds, but if they do he'll get a lot back!

I'm still in shock, can't believe we won a penalty shoot out! I really thought it was over after Cocu missed, but vd Sar!

Woo-hoo, with that Dutch win we're now officially the worst penalty-takers in Europe! 1-6, compared to Holland's 1-4. I'm glad they won, I want either them or the Czechs to win the whole thing. I don't know why... maybe because those two sides played the best match of the tournament so far. That last Swedish miss was a little too timid, as opposed to the earlier ballooning over the bar that put them behind early on. I see van Nistelrooij was extremely fired up at getting the first one on the board.

:red: Penalties... It could have gone either way during regular play, so why didn't it? Congrats to the Dutch for beating your penalties-jinx, hope you beat Portugal.

Sorry Aphex, but we needed to win on penalties once. I also gave up hope after Cocu's missed penalty I don't know who to root for in the next match cause I always like the host country to do well, but we also need some succes now.

This swedish team is building up a not so very nice history of going out in an abrupt fashion once they've gone clear of the group stage. Golden-goal loss vs. Senegal in WC 02 and now this...

Honestly I think this was our best performance overall in this tournament. We had a tactic, albeit a not very exciting one, and we held on to it for 120 minutes. Defensive, was our best in this tournament, Östlund was excellent in his first proper cap, Nilsson, much better this time. Midfield, also very good, both in offense and defense, shame Jonsson got injured he would have beaten v. Bronckhorst sooner or later, Ljungberg, was probably the best swedish player. Forwards, Zlatan worked hard the whole match, really awful penalty though, Henke was excellent, beat Staam in the air, but WHY did he hit the bar in the extra-time? I was almost content with how we played. Shame it had to end like it did

Bad luck about the match Aphex, the penalties unfortunately I called Zlatan and Mellberg's misses before they stepped out and have a room full of witnesses. It was just the facial expressions that they had, when they took them, Mellberg almost looked scared.
So the Dutch have won a penalty shoot out, it had to happen one day and unfortunately it was for the Swedes. The Dutch well they have made the semis with a system that does not work and if they don't fix something I can see Scolari outwitting them, and is Van Der Meyde related to Advocaat in some way? He has been ineffective during the whole tournament apart from the cross for Horseface's goal against Germany, yet he still gets a starting position.
Isaksson was very good during the tournament, and both sides had enough chances, but it seemed that they could play for 5 hours and not score a goal.
It will be hard now Henke has retired, but at least the Swedes have something to build on, and have one of the easier qualifying groups for Germany 2006, so that's the next thing.

Nistelrooij didn't get one full chance in the whole match and the Dutch wings weren't dangerous at all, although Robben came colse a few times. Advocaat told Dutch tv that they had a spy at the Swedish training who saw that the Swedes took 9 out of 10 penatlis in the right corner. He told vd Sar and that's why he was able to stop Mellberg's penalty. vd Sar was pointing at him afterwards. GWH, I agrre about vd Meyde, he should be sent home. Can't imagine Advocaat will let him start against Portugal.

I don't know if it was bad luck. The Dutch had some really good chances in regular play, so did we. And v. der Saar was close to saving three of our hit penalties, Isaksson was never really close to the Dutch ones. Holland deserved to win the penalties, that's it, no bad luck there . I called Zlatan's miss too, he looked very nervous, my mum is my witness Actually Henke has said he probably will play on for the national team now.

Fantastic news for Liverpool if Baros keeps on playing like this ;D Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to and was going to walk out on Liverpool when Houllier was there. But he's going to stay now and I hope he gets to start instead of being refined to the bench again.

Henke will still play for the national team then Aphex, that is interesting.
The Czechs were very good when they needed to step up and they were very efficient with their chances considering they had less ball than the Danes, but made it count, unlike Denmark, who didn't have a shot on goal until Madsen came on the field.
Baros might stay, then again this is when the silly season transfer wise truly begins.

Im certain Baros will stay. He will get a new chance under Rafa Benitez and already said that he wants to stay. Gerrard isn't going to Chelsea!! Oh wow, this is really good news. He had an awful tournament but now he has decided to stay at Anfield I think he can finally forget about all this and carry on with things. Even with all their money Chelsea didn't manage to prise him away. He's a very important player for us.

at the Czech team in the Denmark game. It was just like a typical ice-hockey match involving the Czech republic. The Czechs defended really well in the first half, increased the pressure in the second punishing the Danes' first mistake, ie bad man-marking at Koller's goal. Then it really turned into Czech ice-hockey, tight but elegant defending, dives, dirty tricks, ie Nedved tripping Gronkjaer with arms out as if he was innocent , and above all SCORING at COUNTER-ATTACK , thus winning with a couple of more goals than they deserved. I don't know if you guys have seen a lot of international level ice-hockey, but when I saw the Czech football team in the second half vs. Denmark, I could draw very clear analogies to several losses Sweden has had vs. the Czechs in ice-hockey. Perhaps it has something to do with their national character, I don't know. Nevertheless I found it hilarious.

Once a scouser always a scouser In Stevie's case anyway, He said he went with his heart and not his head. But thats pretty worrying if his head said Chelsea Oh, who cares, they were just being greedy because they already have a fine player in Frank Lampard who is similar to Gerrard in attacking play and spirit.

And I forgot to mentioned the goalies. The Czech always have awesome goalies in ice-hockey who have a habit of keeping shut. And their current footie-goalie, Chech(?), is brilliant.

ILR, for a Liverpool fan you seem to have plenty of favs in Chelsea. I thought you guys were allergic to blue from birth Nah....I only have 2 faves from Chelsea. I think Cech had a very good tournament and its no suprise they have a lot of good players because they have the money to buy anyone. Having said that, Terry went through the youth system and Lampard moved 3 years ago from West Ham. And the blue that we're allergic to is strictly Everton blue I liked Chelsea more than any other prem team behind Liverpool because of Zola. I was a massive fan of his, he was a genius

Zola was a fantastic player. It's weird he was basically ignored by the Italian national team. Roberto Baggio is another Italian genius who didn't get his due share of caps.
