I just read Justine and Amelie's interviews. I'm sorry, I don't judge justine as a person because I don't know everything that's going on for her, but it's really just a huge blemish on her career. But I'm happy for Amelie, even if she totally did nothing to deserve it. She's a sweet girl and she resists the journalists' pressure to badmouth Justine.

Q. What do you plan to do tonight?MARCOS BAGHDATIS: Tonight? Q. Yeah. MARCOS BAGHDATIS: Nothing. Really go sleep. Just eat and go sleep. Q. Have you been given any sort of orders from management over whether sex is on the menu? MARCOS BAGHDATIS: Sorry? Q. Will sex be on the menu tonight? MARCOS BAGHDATIS: I cannot answer that question, sorry. Did you make this up ;D

Gah, I decided to go out at the last minute because I'd finally found something better to do on a Friday night. Best decision ever.

Only in women's tennis, can things like thís happen. So she couldn't play/lose 14 more points, 8 of them on the return where she could just let the ball pass by?
Amelie wins the title with 3 retirements, 2 "walkovers" against hopeless players and 2 shaky early matches. Congrats. Is there any achievement left on the WTA that has a true value? Guess not.

I have no problem with Amelie taking the title, not at all.
It is a bit ironic though that on the two final stages of the tournament - which had always been her biggest obstacles - she did not have to convert a match-point, she did not have to serve it out, she did not have to WIN. Not her fault of course, maybe she would have done all this, we will never know.
That's just not the way I wanted to see her doing it. But it fits into the picture of recent years where big titles don't mean as much as they did before because of players underperforming in the big matches, especially Lindsay who's responsible for quite a few GS winners that weren't really supposed to win (in my opinion). But it's the same for some other people.
The truth is that Amelie did not pass a real test in the whole tournament, and that is just sad. The Kim match was a test and she was in good position to win it, but would she have done it? After her Championships win you might want to say "yes" but I'm not sure.
A GS title is a GS title but - and I hate to say this - this one is tainted. I just hope that it will not be her last one, because that would really suck.

So I missed stuff...are Damm/Paes making fun of the Twins with the chest bump? I mean...they must be, right? The Indian Express were doing the chest bump long before the Twins came along!

I would like to congratulate Amelie on her first Slam title; may there be many more. So great to see her stop hampering her beautiful game with her shaky noggin! And I would like to congratulate myself for removing wtaworld's GM hellhole from my bookmarks. Again!

Also, thinking about it, what Justine did was very very poor. You do not retire in a GS final unless you are badly injured, pass out or have acute diarrhea.

It was a horrible thing to do, no doubt about it. But I still love her. It's like when you ream out druggies and then you find coke in your kid's drawer -- you'll feel the same way, but your reaction to the specific person will be less severe because...it's your kid, you know? But it still chips away a little bit at your respect, your trust, and, yes, your love. It's just a very disappointing thing to do; everything else she's done to piss people off could be explained but this was indefensible.

Mind you, I haven't seen the "match" yet so I shouldn't comment. Edberg retired in the 1990 final. I think he had a bad abdominal strain and there was another set to play. Even Venus finished that Wimbledon final against Serena where she was really injured for once (I think). Well actually I heard that once a marathon runner did have acute diarrhea but (s)he kept running and just let it flow. Might be less appropriate on a tennis court though.

I still don't know if this win will solve Amelie's problems. When she's serving for a spot in a slam final, I'm still probably putting my money on the other player.

Yeah. BTW Andrew, what about Cara getting thrashed by Big Brenda? I just saw that result. The result really isn't suprising. On this surface, Brenda could serve someone like Cara offcourt. When I saw her play like two years ago, Brenda still had an outstanding serve. But, Cara needs to just stop the singles. Damn. Can't say I'm upset though. Brenda rocks.
