9:30pm EST. Watch Justine Henin-Hardenne defeat Amelie Mauresmo in a likely ugly final where Amelie GAGS, and see Christine win her 5th slam. Tying Hingis.

Good luck to Team Leander in the final. Whoop the Twins!

Go Twins! Errrr I wouldn't love a Momo win, because she deserves a Slam. But, of course, I want Justine to win as many as she can, mostly to piss off the Clijsters contingent. ;D

Oh yeah, the doubles' final too.
I'd prefer Maumau winning. But, that's only if she plays well.

I like Justine more than Amelie but would like Amelie to win this. Justine will probably have a serious shot at RG again as long as she's not injured, whereas Amelie is going to gag there as always.
That said, I'm not going to complain either way. What a parfait final ;D

The only thing interesting about this final is that Amelie is in it.
Justine will win other Slams and she has some already. She doesn't need this and I don't think she's really expecting it after arriving in Australia after so much time off.
Amelie, on the other hand, needs this. I have always been a big believer that the more times she gets far in Slams the better her chances of overcoming her nerves. Obviously she will realize the magnitude of this occasion, but her match against Kim was pretty big too. A quick start is important, I just hope she can do it and shut a lot of people up. If not, there will be other chances. But this is a good one.

Amélie doesn't need this. She has never won a major and will never win one. Justine has a body of work to construct.
;D

Well, women's tennis just gets more predictable, doesn't it?

At least Amelie played great tennis to win. I watched the Olympic final before this, and she was like two different players. She's wonderful to watch when she isn't playing scared, doesn't fall 10 feet behind the baseline, and just hits her shots.
Still though, this was probably the strangest slam win ever.

It will probably seem less strange as time goes by. Amelie was steady and focused today, the opposite of what we've seen under pressure in the past. It may be too soon to judge, but Justine might have pussed out because she was being killed. If so, what a shitty thing to do.

I like Justine... but, to retire because of a probable tummy ache in a Grand Slam final...
Weak. She loses cool points.

Actually for about 10-15 minutes before that, I was thinking if it wasn't a slam final she'd probably retire. She looked fucked.

I'm tempted to give her the benefit of the doubt however, since this is the same person who has lost a leg a few times yet still came back to win the match. This was just utterly bizarre, it's hard for me to take a firm stance on it

May explain the stupid aggressiveness from Justine today. But, oh well. Better player won.

Amelie deserves this, no question. I can't believe how composed she looked today! Even if Justine was 100% I think she would have a great chance to win the match. I don't believe Justine was faking it, but I also suspect there's more to the story than just the upset stomach.

Damn, damn... Just, damn...
Justine seriously couldn't play though. I'm glad Amelie finally won her slam. When playing well, she has the most complete game on tour.

pathetic
I was playing a video game during the first set and thought of posting here, but, I told myself, dude, amelie is winning, keep doing what you are doing! it is giving her luck!
what a weird match
I really think justine isnt injured and retired because she knew she was going to lose 6161 0r 6162
get shoulder aids again, justine
edit:
And Amelie played excellent tennis

Yes, I think a healthy Justine would have had a very tough time winning that match. Amelie was hitting so many strong topspin shots that were jumping high off the court. On that court, that's the exact way to play.

So much talk about Hingis this year. Remember the last AO final she played, she could barely walk a straight line by the end but still finished the match. Justine has totally lost me here. Very disappointing.
Well done, Amélie. The first of many major titles, as I said before. ;D

Justine really disappoints me now, thinking about it.
This is against Maumau, who you know will likely have a difficult time closing out this match. At least stay on court, and hang in rallies... who knows what she'll do. She did look sick... but, it wasn't like she couldn't play. Even if you end having to puke on court, it's a Grand Slam final. Fight. You're supposed to be a fighter. Oh well.

you retire when something like what happened to kim the other night happens, when you no longer can walk, not when you are getting killed.
now mauresmo probably thinks she still has to prove something.

At least to me she looked really bad. And surely she knows what people are going to make out of this, so...

I don't know. Justine's illnesses in the past couple years may have something to do with it, though...
Oh, and now who takes the claim as the best player not to win a slam!
Demented? Schnyder? Nadya? Bovina? We're running quite thin now.
