Well yeah, she quit. Shouldn't have done that.

Booooooo I cannot believe I've stayed away from all the media the whole day and waited for the replay to see ... THIS. Amelie, though, just looked superb in the first set. Finally a rare occassion when she played with such clear head in a big match. Pitty she was not able to finish it in style. I shared a silent tear of joy with her, that was cool And I have to swear, just yesterday I read an article where Justine said this was the first time in 2 years when she felt so fit and healthy, so ... duh...

Justine could have mentioned her shoulder and stomach pain problems MORE (that is, she could have mentioned them, period), while Kim could have discussed her myriad ailments much LESS. Hard to strike the right balance sometimes, but the players each need to find the approach that works for them, not the approach that will best please the world at large. It's tough to know what to do.

I think Justine was right not to talk about her ailments, and Kim was wrong. And Justine should have kept on shutting up. She should have played out the final and afterwards said "Amelie played a superb match. Congrats to her. I wasn't feeling my best, but c'est la vie." A few years from now she could reveal the agony she was in, but at least let Amelie have her moment. Sometimes you just have to stay out there even if you're feeling horrible. I love Justine, but I'm sorry she doesn't understand that.

Hurley, I agree that it doesn't make me dislike Justine, but in fact I worry about her. It doesn't really matter that it will hurt her image (though it will), that's just PR stuff, or lose her a few fans, but I really think it's an internal problem. I have no idea -- but I wonder if maybe the wrong atmosphere is being created around her and she's lost perspective.

Someone said that Carlos advised her to retire in the first set already. Not sure if it's true, but he is just not in the position to do this, especially not in a GS final. Justine is a grown woman and with all the injury/illness trouble I'm sure she knows her body well enough to decide by herself what to do. Justine sometimes does things that no one understands. Weird.

Hi misha, long time no see janie, no way was I demanding Justine to act the way I'd like her to act or speak the words I'd like to hear. I just said I was really surprised that Justine retired having made comments about her excellent condition just a day or two before. Besides, knowing that Justine is a real fighter and came through several matches in the past playing with various ailments and pains, it was just too hard to believe that she would retire from a GS final because of stomach pain. Justine indeed is capable of weird actions. Anyway, what happened won't make me anti-Justine. I'm just disappointed because what could have been a dream final for me turned out to be a farce.

Hi Vaiva!
I just hope Amelie continues to play well, and gets into a situation again at another slam where she can prove her mettle against a fit opponent. Now maybe that's she won a slam, she'll feel less pressure and play her best tennis.

I still have to like Justine, because I can't hate everyone in the Top 10. Besides Nadya, but she doesn't really count. And I'll hate Amelie again when she plays wimpy... which she will again.

Yeah, Nadya did annoy me in that match. I can even go further than the Top 10. 1. Kim. Lolz. 2. Amelie. Hate her when she chokes. Which will ensue again at RG. 3. Lindsay. Loser. Horrible attitude. Go start your family, already. 4. Maria. Lolz. 5. Justine. 6. Mahree. Well, I like her... but, I doubt she'll be there for long. 7. Nadya. Sucks. 8. Patty. Freak. 9. Demented. So hot, but annoying stubborn bitch. 10. Penis. Go away. 11. Frannie. I can't let go her attacking of Bovina. I like her otherwise. 12. Myskina. Started the mediocre Russian slam thing. Can be really ugly to watch when her game is off. Which it usually is now. 13. Kuznetsova. Snobby bitch. Thinks she's better than she is, and it's shown in her dropping level of play. And she's very ugly, unfortunately. 14. Nikki. Lolz. Maria clone. 15. Hantuchova. I like her when she's not a psycho. Game is beautiful when she's focused. Which still is rare. And her fans are amongst the worst. 16. Flavia. How is she ranked this high. Another boring brainless basher. 17. Safina. Paris goes away soon. Underachiever. Mental weakling like her moron brother, but with much less talent.

Flavia is #16 these days??? omg I'm so self-deluded! I always think to myself that I "like almost all the players", but reading that list, I realize I'm not so fond of quite a few, after all. Kim: nope. She is Boring Barbie. Maria/Nicole (arent' they the same person?): please. Give me a sleeping pill. Patty: yecchh. She's nuts, which I could enjoy, but she's nasty-nuts, which I can't. Nadya: immense indifference toward her. Hard to believe that she once spent a little time as my "favorite Russian player". Hantu: what's the big deal about her anyway. Borrrrring. Safina: I just don't give a hoot about her.

What a stupid accounting of her run to the title. You mean walk to the title, right? No, I mean you're an idiot. You wanna talk about soft draws? What did Hingis get?

Q. You say "pissed off." What were you pissed off about?
MIKE BRYAN: Well, I mean, it was getting really competitive out there. You know, it's never fun seeing someone steal your move and do a chest pump at you (smiling).

wtaworld's Challenger section is pretty great. The rest of it, well, it's just sad. Only worthwhile part of the board, as it's the only place to get info on those tournaments. Only reason I still visit there, besides my trolling sprees every 12 months, or so. But, like godom said... definitely not as good as it used to be, either.

He is a liar![/quote] brinyi I can't find the link to where I read this, but I read that Leander in his interview said the same as you -- that they had been doing chestbumps since the Bryans were in diapers! And that Mike Bryan was "an insecure little fella" because he's not as talented as his brother! Leander!
